Real Chocolate. Zero Gluten. Absolutely No Compromise.
For anyone with coeliac disease, gluten intolerance, or wheat sensitivity, finding safe treats can feel like a full-time job. With Sweet William, you can buy gluten free chocolate without worry — enjoying one of life’s simple pleasures stress-free.
At Sweet William, it isn't. Every product we make is completely gluten free, produced in a dedicated facility where gluten-containing ingredients have never been part of the picture. Whether you're coeliac, gluten intolerant, or simply choosing to avoid gluten, Sweet William is chocolate you can enjoy freely and without worry.
A Completely Dedicated Gluten Free Facility
The foundation of our gluten free promise is simple: gluten doesn't come through our doors. Sweet William operates a fully dedicated facility for gluten free chocolate. Wheat, barley, rye, oats, and any ingredients derived from them are completely absent from our site — not managed around, not cleaned between runs — simply never present. With no shared lines or equipment, there’s zero risk of cross-contamination, ensuring every bite of our gluten free chocolate is safe and delicious.
For people with coeliac disease, where even microscopic traces of gluten can cause serious harm, this level of separation isn't just reassuring — it's essential.
What Does Gluten Free Mean at Sweet William?
Our chocolate contains no wheat, no barley, no rye, and no oats — and nor does anything else in our factory. The ingredients we use in place of traditional chocolate additives are carefully selected and verified to be gluten free at source.
Instead of dairy milk solids (which can sometimes carry gluten risk depending on their source), we use tapioca starch and rice flour — naturally gluten free, plant-based alternatives that give our chocolate its smooth, satisfying texture. Everything we make — from our Mylk Chocolate bars to our White and Dark ranges, our baking chips and buttons, our No Added Sugar line, and our chocolate spread — is gluten free across the board.
Why Coeliac Disease Makes "Dedicated" So Important
Coeliac disease is an autoimmune condition triggered by gluten — the protein found in wheat, barley, rye and oats. When someone with coeliac disease consumes gluten, their immune system attacks the lining of the small intestine, causing damage that can lead to serious long-term health consequences, even when symptoms aren't immediately obvious.
This means that for coeliacs, cross-contamination is as much of a concern as direct exposure. A product can be made with entirely gluten free ingredients and still be unsafe if it's produced alongside gluten-containing products on shared equipment. That's why our dedicated facility matters. It's not just about what's in the recipe — it's about what's in the room.
How We Keep It Gluten Free: Our Testing & Procedures
Being gluten free isn't something we leave to chance or good intentions. It's something we verify at every level of our operation.
Ingredient Supplier Screening
Before any ingredient enters our facility, we rigorously screen our suppliers to confirm that everything coming in is free from gluten and compliant with our allergen-free brand promise. Supplier declarations are verified, not simply accepted.
Strict In-House Procedures
Our production team follows comprehensive, documented procedures at every stage of manufacturing. These are part of a formal Food Safety Program that has been active for over 10 years, covering everything from raw material intake through to finished product packaging.
Regular Batch Testing
We regularly send product samples to independent laboratories for allergen analysis, including gluten testing. This means we don't just trust our processes — we confirm them with data, batch by batch.
International Food Safety Certification
Sweet William meets the International Standard ISO22000 and is audited against FSSC22000, which is benchmarked as equivalent to SQF2000 and BRC by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI). Independent third-party auditors verify that our food safety systems meet the highest global standards — giving you confidence that goes well beyond a label claim.
Gluten Free and So Much More
Our gluten free commitment doesn't stand alone. The entire Sweet William range is also:
No milk, no dairy proteins, no lactose in any product or anywhere in our facility.
Our entire range is gluten free, made in a facility free from wheat and gluten-containing ingredients.
Sweet William is a 100% dedicated nut free facility. No peanuts. No tree nuts. Full stop.
No animal products, animal-derived ingredients, eggs or egg products are ever used in any of our products.
No artificial colours, flavours, preservatives or sweeteners. Ever.
All ingredients are carefully sourced free from GMO contamination.
Why You Can Trust Us When You Buy Gluten Free Chocolate
For someone with coeliac disease or serious gluten sensitivity, trust in a food brand isn't built overnight.
Here's what makes Sweet William a brand the gluten free community has relied on for over 20 years:
- Our facility has never used wheat, barley, rye, oats or any gluten-containing ingredient
- Every batch undergoes independent allergen testing — we verify, not just assume
- Our ingredient suppliers are actively screened for gluten compliance, not just declared safe
- We are certified to FSSC22000 / ISO22000 — the highest tier of international food safety standards
- Our comprehensive Food Safety Program has been in place for over a decade
- We've been making dedicated free-from chocolate since the late 1990s — this is not a sideline for us, it's everything we do
We understand that when you're coeliac or highly gluten sensitive, a mistake isn't just inconvenient — it can mean days of illness and lasting damage. That's a responsibility we take seriously every single day.
A Note on Coeliac Disease & Gluten Intolerance
Coeliac disease is a serious autoimmune condition affecting approximately 1 in 70 Australians — though many remain undiagnosed. It is triggered by the ingestion of gluten, causing the immune system to attack the small intestine lining. The only management is a strict, lifelong gluten free diet. Even tiny traces of gluten can cause harm, which is why dedicated facilities like ours are so important.
Non-coeliac gluten sensitivity (NCGS) causes similar symptoms to coeliac disease — including bloating, abdominal pain, fatigue and brain fog — without the same autoimmune intestinal damage. Those with NCGS also benefit from avoiding gluten, and Sweet William chocolate is suitable for them too. Wheat allergy is a separate immune reaction to wheat proteins (not exclusively gluten). All Sweet William products are also wheat free. If you have been diagnosed with coeliac disease or have concerns about gluten sensitivity, please consult your healthcare professional. And as always, we're here if you have any questions about our products.
