No Added Sugar FAQ's
Our No Added Sugar range has absolutely no sugar added, where the Low Sugar range has some fruit pieces added which contain some small amounts of sugar. The No Added Sugar has a very small amount of naturally occurring sugar from the soy but is still suitable for diabetics.
No, the 'No Added Sugar' varieties contain Maltitol (naturally occurring in chicory leaves and malted barley) and Stevia Leaf extracts, a natural herbal sweetener.
Yes the No Added Sugar products are suitable for diabetics. Formulated with very low sugar levels compared to normal chocolates, they are naturally sweetened with Stevia and Maltitol. They are formulated to not allow rapid release of glucose.
Blind taste tests showed that people were unable to tell the difference between Sweet William Chocolate with or without sugar.
Sweet William's 'No Added Sugar' range has a very low GI of <20. Anything less than 55 is rated as low G.I.
Maltitol is a natural sweetener made from corn starch and is 90% as sweet as sugar. Maltitol is a polyol and as such has a low impact on blood sugars.
Stevia is a leaf, completely natural, non-caloric and sweet-tasting. Stevia extract does not have any effect on glucose release and will not impact on diabetics. Stevia leaf extracts are 300 times sweeter than sugar.

All Sweet William products are free from dairy, lactose, gluten, eggs, peanuts and tree nuts. Sweet William operates a totally dedicated facility and implements strict procedures to ensure their products are free from allergens. In addition, every supplier of ingredients is screened intensely to make sure that every single ingredient is free from dairy, gluten and nuts. Sweet William also regularly sends out batch samples for analysis to make sure there are no allergens present. All these procedures combined ensure peace of mind for people dealing with allergies and food intolerances.
